Project 005: Haven of Hope - Villa Lobos, Guatemala

Project Description

Off the highway leaving Guatemala City is a place called Villa Lobos, a red zone known for poverty, broken families, gang violence and hopelessness. Rising from the ashes of despair is a church-based feeding/ education center which provide meals to the hungry, education to increase their knowledge, counseling to heal their wounds, prayer and spiritual guidance to find salvation and eternal joy.

On October 30, 2014 The Hope Movement launched a new church-based feeding/ education center in partnership with our long-time friend Pastor William Lopez and his church Iglesia Genesis JMA. Over half of the children in our center do not attend church opening the doors to not only minster to their material needs but provide a heart transformation bringing families into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.

Empowering and Unifying the Church

The Hope Movement understands the importance of the church's responsibility to step outside of the four walls to serve the community. Often charities invest funds in buildings and salaries when there are many churches that already have a building, volunteers from their congregation and an established relationship with the community but they lack the financial resources and training to launch programs which incorporate spiritual and social outreach.

The Hope Movement partners with churches with a heart to serve and step outside of the comfort zone and develop a relationship with the church. We evaluate the community’s needs and the church's available resources. We then shake the comfort zone of the church to inspire the congregation to assist their Pastor in fulfilling the purpose of the church, provide financial resources for food and education expenses and provide on-going training and monitoring of the program. This allows the church to fulfill the vision of God and allows the Hope Movement to expand our reach, feeding and education more with less.

  • You are The Hope Movement, we are a team in the work of God, we can not fulfill our calling without you. Just as our calling is to go and work in the mission field to transform lives, you have a profound calling to give to help sustain the work being accomplished.

As the word of God has directed us in 2 Corinthians 9, "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
