Hope Movement Chapters
The most developed Hope Movement Chapters are involved in all four categories. However, Hope Movement Chapters come in a variety of shapes and sizes, as the people at each college, youth group, or church are uniquely suited to do different things. Some groups consist of two people who meet together to pray about injustice, while others are large, active clubs, while others are parts of other groups or ministries.
Whatever your group looks like, know that showing up on behalf of the victims of abuse and oppression is the most important step you can take. And by taking that first step, know that you have already made a major difference.
Who can start a Hope Movement Chapter?
The Hope Movement’s Chapters consist of church congregations, church youth groups, undergraduate students on all types of colleges and universities, high schools, law and graduate schools, and seminaries.
One of the greatest hindrances to the work for justice is fear – fear of discomfort, fear of having to step out of our comfort zones, fear of stepping out the current responsibilities that take up our time and energy (see Luke 9:57-62). God calls us to a life of courage, adventure and abandon to His will in our lives. As students and church members, a whole realm of possibilities is before you. You can dream big with God and have the freedom to serve Him with reckless abandon.
The Hope Movement firmly believes that you represent an incredible hope for the future, but also that you have the power now to “preach good news to the poor…to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners” (Isaiah 61:1-3). Our hope is that you will start on this journey today, and that you will let God use you to call others to the work as well.
